Enable free SSL (HTTPS) with Let's Encrypt

Every site on SoftServer can use a free SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt, so it loads securely over HTTPS.

Before you start

The domain must already point at your server (a valid A record) and resolve publicly. SSL issuance verifies the domain, so DNS has to be live first.

Steps

  1. Open your server and go to the Domains section.
  2. Find the domain you want to secure.
  3. Click to install SSL for that domain.
  4. The panel requests and installs a Let's Encrypt certificate and configures HTTPS automatically.

Automatic renewal

Let's Encrypt certificates last 90 days and renew automatically — you do not have to track expiry dates.

Troubleshooting

  • If issuance fails, confirm the domain's A record points at your server and has propagated.
  • If you use Cloudflare, set the record to "DNS only" while issuing the certificate.
  • Make sure ports 80 and 443 are allowed in your firewall.
