Enable free SSL (HTTPS) with Let's Encrypt
Every site on SoftServer can use a free SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt, so it loads securely over HTTPS.
Before you start
The domain must already point at your server (a valid A record) and resolve publicly. SSL issuance verifies the domain, so DNS has to be live first.
Steps
- Open your server and go to the Domains section.
- Find the domain you want to secure.
- Click to install SSL for that domain.
- The panel requests and installs a Let's Encrypt certificate and configures HTTPS automatically.
Automatic renewal
Let's Encrypt certificates last 90 days and renew automatically — you do not have to track expiry dates.
Troubleshooting
- If issuance fails, confirm the domain's A record points at your server and has propagated.
- If you use Cloudflare, set the record to "DNS only" while issuing the certificate.
- Make sure ports 80 and 443 are allowed in your firewall.
